Rockies narrowly avoid shutout

Colorado scored its lone run in the ninth inning Friday night in a 7-1 defeat at San Diego for its fourth loss in a row. Nolan Arenado went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored to help pace the Rockies offense. Charlie Blackmon and Raimel Tapia each finished 2-for-4. Kyle Freeland took the loss as he surrendered three earned runs on eight hits with three strikeouts and two walks over six innings of work. Chi Chi Gonzalez draws the start tonight for Colorado as he enters with an 0-4 record, 5.95 ERA and 1.73 WHIP with 13 strikeouts over 19 2/3 innings.

Padres cruise to win

San Diego posted a 7-1 home victory Friday night over Colorado to improve to 54-61 overall and 27-30 at home. Josh Naylor helped pace the offensive effort as he hit a pinch-hit three-run home run. Fernando Tatis Jr. was 1-for-3 with a double, two walks and two RBIs. Eric Hosmer and Francisco Mejia were each 2-for-4 with a run scored. Cal Quantrill recorded the win as he allowed five hits with five strikeouts and no walks over seven shutout innings. Chris Paddack gets the start tonight as he comes in with a 7-5 record, 3.19 ERA and 0.93 WHIP with 110 strikeouts over 104 1/3 innings of work.

MLB Betting Trends

Colorado

The Rockies are 5-17 in their last 22 Saturday games. Colorado is 0-4 in the last four Gonzalez starts.

San Diego

The Padres are 5-1 in the last six Paddack home starts. San Diego is 4-10 in its last 14 home games.

Prediction:

Colorado is playing bad, bad baseball right now and Paddack isn't likely to help those issues. With Gonzalez not having much success at all at the MLB level, I see another rout in the cards. Go with the runline bet here.
