Cubs slip up
Chicago hasn’t been great on the road and the Cubs dropped another game away from home on Friday in a 5-2 loss to the Reds. The Cubs are 63-53 on the season, 22-34 on the road and 59-53 with the under. Chicago has Kyle Hendricks on the mound tonight. He is 8-8 on the season with a 3.06 ERA.
Chicago was held to just five hits on Friday. Nicholas Castellanos continued his strong start with his new team by knocking out his fourth home run already. Anthony Rizzo drove in the other run for the Cubs while Jason Heyward scored the other run. Yu Darvish took the loss to fall to 4-6 on the season. He threw six innings and allowed four runs with nine strikeouts.
Reds staying warm
The Cincinnati Reds have won four of their last five thanks to the victory over the Cubs last night. Cincinnati is 55-59 on the season, 32-27 at home and 67-44 with the under. The Reds have Sonny Gray on the mound tonight. He is 6-6 on the season with a 3.25 ERA.
Trevor Bauer earned his first win with his new team, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while allowing just one run. Raisel Iglesias earned his 23rd save thanks to a scoreless ninth. At the plate, Cincy had three home runs in the win. Eugenio Suarez hit his 31st of the year in a solo shot while Joey Votto and Aristides Aquino also homered.
MLB Betting Trends
Chicago
The Cubs are 5-1 in their last six Saturday games and 4-0 in their last four after a loss.
Cincinnati
The Reds have won five straight against a right-handed starter, but just 3-8 in their last 11 Saturday games.
Prediction:
Gray has been pretty solid over the last six weeks. In three starts against the Cubs, Gray has a 3.63 ERA. Hendricks has been impressive as well, allowing two runs or less in seven straight starts. He has a 2.70 ERA over three starts against the Reds. I hate that the Cubs struggle on the road. It makes them hard to trust, but I think this pitching matchup is pretty even and the Cubs just have the far superior hitting. If Chicago is going to be a legit contender, it has to get on track on the road sometime.
MLB Prediction: Chicago Cubs -120
