Pirates score early, hold on
Pittsburgh scored twice in the first inning and another in the third Wednesday afternoon at Colorado to take a 3-0 advantage en route to a 4-3 win. Cprey Dickerson helped pace the offense by going 2-for-4 with a double. Gregory Polanco went 1-for-3 with a double, two walks, a run and an RBI. Colin Moran went 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI. Adam Frazier finished 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles. Angel Hechavarria was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk. Chris Archer picked up his first win with the Pirates as he allowed two earned runs on five hits with three strikeouts and two walks over five innings. Felipe Vasquez threw a spotless ninth inning to pick up his 26th save.
Giants drop both games to Astros
After blowing a ninth-inning lead Monday, San Francisco was edged 2-1 Tuesday at home against Houston to drop both games in the short series. Chase d'Arnaud was 1-for-2 and drove in the lone run for the hosts. Brandon Crawford was 1-for-4 with a double and scored the run. Ray Black suffered the loss as he gave up two earned runs on three hits with two strikeouts in an inning of work.
Ivan Nova (6-6, 4.49 ERA) will start today for Pittsburgh, while Andrew Suarez (4-7, 4.60) gets the nod for San Francisco.
MLB Betting Trends
Pittsburgh
The Pirates are 7-2 in their last nine road games. Pittsburgh is 6-2 in its last eight during game one of a series.
San Francisco
The Giants are 16-6 in their last 22 home games versus a right-handed starter. San Francisco is 1-4 in its last five games overall.
Prediction:
Nova has had a rocky season and Suarez hasn't been fooling anyone lately. Even in a pitcher's paradise, I see both offenses flourishing here. Suarez will be the perfect type of pitcher for the Pirates as they transition from playing in the thin air of Coors Field. I almost leaned betting on Pittsburgh as an underdog, but ultimately decided the over is a better play.
