Phillies' Velasquez dominates in win over Marlins
Vince Velasquez was in dominant form on Friday, striking out seven over 6 1/3 shutout innings in a victory over the Marlins. Velasquez allowed just two hits and a walk in the masterful outing. With the victory, the right-hander improves to 8-8 on the season to go along with a 3.80, 1.20 WHIP and 129/43 K/BB ratio across 113 2/3 innings. He'll look to replicate this fine effort when he does battle against the Diamondbacks in Arizona on Wednesday.
Diamondbacks' Corbin allows three runs in six innings vs. Giants
Patrick Corbin yielded three runs in six innings Friday in defeating the Giants. Corbin hasn't come close to duplicating his incredible April in any month since, but he's remained thoroughly above average, amassing ERAs of 3.82 in May, 3.52 in June and 3.68 last month. He's at 4.50 through one start in August, but he struck out eight, walked none and gave up no extra-base hits tonight.
