Rangers sweep lowly Tigers
Texas moved its winning streak to four games and downed Detroit for a third straight time Sunday afternoon with a 9-4 home victory. The hosts scored four runs in the seventh inning to break a 4-4-4 tie before adding one more in the eighth. Shin-Soo Choo paced the Rangers offense as he went a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles, two walks, three runs scored and an RBI. Danny Santana finished 2-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs. Willie Calhoun was 1-for-4 with a triple, a run scored and three RBIs. Rafael Montero earned the win in relief as he gave up two hits with one strikeout over 2 1/3 scoreless frames. Mike Minor draws the start tonight as he enters with a 9-6 record, 3.21 ERA and 1.21 WHIP with 141 strikeouts over 140 innings pitched.
Bieber guides Indians past Angels
Cleveland secured a 6-2 home win over the Angeles Sunday afternoon to improve to 66-45 overall and 36-23 at home. Jason Kipnis led the Indians offense as he finished 2-for-3 with a home run, a walk, two runs scored and three RBIs. Francisco Lindor went 1-for-3 with a homer, a walk and two RBIs. Oscar Mercado ended the contest 1-for-4 with a solo home run plus a walk. Shane Bieber threw a complete-game to notch the win as he gave up two earned runs on five hits with eight strikeouts and no walks over nine innings. Aaron Civale gets the start tonight for Cleveland as he threw six shutout innings with six strikeouts and three walks in his MLB debut during a 2-0 home victory over Detroit back on June 22.
MLB Betting Trends
Texas
The Rangers are 4-11 in their last 15 road games. Texas is 1-4 in the last five Minor starts.
Cleveland
The Indians are 5-1 in their last six series openers. Cleveland is 12-5 in the last 17 meetings.
Prediction:
Civale gets a bump from oddsmakers because he was awesome in his first MLB start, but let's not forget that came against a Detroit team with the worst record in baseball. Although Minor has not been quite as good lately as he was earlier in the season, he's still a veteran who knows how to navigate through a lineup. Texas is on a decent run right now and I'm going to take my chances on the underdogs against a rookie pitcher making only his second MLB start.
