Marlins drop opener

Miami has lost three of its last four after losing to the Rays on Saturday, 8-6. Miami is 42-66 on the season, 20-31 on the road and 54-49 with the under. The Marlins have Caleb Smith getting the start today. He is 7-4 on the season with a 3.43 ERA.

The Rays broke a 6-6 tie in the eighth inning by scoring two runs to get the win on Saturday. Miami struggled with its pitching in the loss, using six arms in total with not one going more than three innings. Jarlin Garcia took the loss by giving up the two runs in the eighth. At the plate, Starlin Castro hit his ninth home run and drove in a pair of runs while scoring twice. Jon Berti had three hits and a RBI as well.

Rays extend win streak

Tampa is now on a five-game winning streak thanks to Saturday’s victory. The Rays have won seven of their last eight as well. Tampa is 64-48 overall, 29-26 at home and 54-49 with the under. The Rays have Yonny Chirinos on the mound today. He is 8-5 on the season with a 3.70 ERA.

Tampa hit four home runs in Saturday’s win, with Eric Sogard knocking out two of them and driving in five. Willy Adames and Austin Meadows also went long in the victory. Reliever Diego Castillo got the start and he pitched a scoreless first, but the middle relief struggled for Tampa. Nick Anderson ended up with the win behind a perfect eighth inning while Emilio Pagan got his ninth save of the season with a scoreless ninth.

MLB Betting Trends

Miami

The Marlins are 4-12 in their last 16 against a winning team and 25-57 in their last 82 road games.

Tampa

The Rays have won four straight against NL East opponents and 20 of their last 26 Sunday games.

Prediction:

Smith has been on a nice run as of late, winning his last four decisions while the Marlins have won his last five starts. Chirinos is coming off a really poor outing in Toronto, allowing seven runs over four innings. His ERA has jumped nearly a whole run over the last 10 starts, but he still is competitive. Tampa hasn’t had great results with him on the mound over the last two months, but I still like the Rays today. Tampa has the better bullpen to use and the Marlins aren’t a proven hitting team to capitalize on Chrinos’ mistakes.

MLB Prediction: Tampa Bay Rays -190
