Braves edge Mets in pitcher's duel
Braves starter Anibal Sanchez outdueled Mets ace Jacob deGrom last night, giving up one earned run on two hits with nine strikeouts and two walks over six innings to pick up the win in a 2-1 triumph. Johan Camargo went 1-for-3 with a second-inning solo home run that gave Atlanta a 1-0 advantage. Ronald Acuna Jr. went 2-for-4 with a double and the go-ahead run in the fifth inning. Ozzie Albies was 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI. A.J. Minter secured his eighth save with a perfect ninth inning.
deGrom drops to 5-7 with loss
Jacob deGrom, the unluckiest pitcher in baseball, suffered another loss Friday despite giving up only two earned runs on six hits over eight innings, striking out nine and walking one. Amed Rosario was 1-for-3 with a double and the lone run. The game was tied at 1-1 in the third inning as deGrom helped his own cause with an RBI single.
Kevin Gausman (5.8, 4.43 ERA) will be making his Braves debut, while the Mets turn to Zack Wheeler (5-6, 4.11).
MLB Betting Trends
Atlanta
The over is 19-7 in the last 26 Braves road games. The under is 7-1 in the last eight meetings in New York.
New York
The Mets are 9-24 in their last 33 home games. New York is 19-42 in its last 61 games overall.
Prediction:
This will be an interesting start for Gausman as getting out of Baltimore and the AL East should give him renewed focus. He'll get a manageable matchup here against the struggling Mets. Wheeler has been solid lately, but he might be due for a dud considering his up-and-down season. The Braves have the batters to make him pay. Considering how New York has played at home, it seems like Atlanta could be favored more.
