Ross, bullpen dominate D-Backs

Joe Ross and the Washington bullpen combined on a one-hit shutout Friday night at Arizona in a 3-0 victory. Ross picked up the win as he gave up no runs on one hit with three strikeouts and five walks over 5 1/3 innings. Sean Doolittle recorded the save as he struck out one in a perfect inning of work. Juan Soto helped lead the Nationals offense as he finished 1-for-4 with a solo home run. Matt Adams ended the game 1-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Adam Eaton went 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Stephen Strasburg draws the start tonight as he enters with a 14-4 record, 3.26 ERA and 1.04 WHIP with 168 strikeouts over 140 2/3 innings.

Diamondbacks held to one hit

Arizona only mustered one hit Friday nigth at home in a 3-0 loss to Washington to drop to 54-56 overall and 23-27 at home. Pitcher Alex Young notched the only hit for the Diamondbacks as he went 1-for-2. Young also took the loss on the mound as he gave up two earned runs on three hits with nine strikeouts and three walks over six innings. Ketel Marte finished 0-for-2 wiht two walks. Jake Lamb and Nick Ahmed both went 0-for-2 with a walk. Robbie Ray gets the start tonight as he comes in with a 9-7 record, 3.91 ERA and 1.30 WHIP with 173 strikeouts over 129 innings pitched.

Prediction:

Strasburg is enjoying a fantastic season and while Ray should keep the D-Backs in it, he is susceptible to the long ball and also is dealing with an offense that was ice cold a night ago. A couple blemishes against Ray might be too much to overcome here. I see a Washington team still competing for a playoff spot as the safe play here.
