Mets doubled up in series opener

New York lost by a count of 8-4 Friday night in its series opener at Pittsburgh to drop to 53-56 overall and 23-36 on the road. Pete Alonso helped lead the Mets offense as he finished 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, a run scored and an RBI. Robinson Cano finished 2-for-4 with a run. Jeff McNeil went 1-for-4 with a double, a walk and a run. Steven Matz took the loss as he gave up five earned runs on six hits with four strikeouts and one walk over 3 2/3 innings. Marcus Stroman will make his first start for New York tonight as he enters with a 6-11 record, 2.96 ERA and 1.23 WHIP with 99 strikeouts over 124 2/3 innings.

Five-run frame propels Pirates

Pittsburgh trailed 3-0 through three innings at home Friday night against New York before a five-run fourth helped lead the way to an 8-4 victory. Starling Marte paced the offense as he ended the game 2-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBIs. Bryan Reynolds was 1-for-3 with two walks and two runs. Kevin Newman went 2-for-4 with a walk and a run. Trevor Williams picked up the win as he allowed three runs on six hits with two strikeouts and three walks over six innings. Chris Archer draws the start tonight as he comes in with a 3-8 record, 5.58 ERA and 1.44 WHIP with 116 strikeouts over 101 1/3 innings.

MLB Betting Trends

New York

The Mets are 4-0 in their last four Saturday games. New York is 4-1 in the last five meetings.

Pittsburgh

The Pirates are 4-1 in the last five Archer home starts. Pittsburgh is 5-16 in its last 21 games overall.

Prediction:

The Mets finally hit a roadblock last night but I like their chances to bounce back today as Stroman makes his first start after being acquired by New York in a trade. While I don't expect Stroman to be perfect, I'd rather fade Archer as he has had another disappointing season and I don't see reason for that not to continue here.
