Miami Marlins vs. Philadelphia Phillies 8/3/18, Prediction & Odds

A walk-off grand slam sent the host Philadelphia Phillies to a thriller of a victory last night over the Miami Marlins. Is more magic in the cards tonight for Philadelphia as the series continues?

Public Betting Information

According to oddsmakers, the Phillies are a -167 favorite to win on the moneyline. The Marlins are a +157 underdog, while the total is set at 8.5 runs. As of Friday afternoon, 74 percent of public bets are pouring in on host Philadelphia. Check out our MLB Public Betting Page for up-to-date info.

Franco hits walk-off grand slam

With the bases loaded and the Phillies down a run in the bottom of the ninth inning Thursday night, Maikel Franco crushed a two-out grand slam to send the Phillies to a 5-2 victory. It was Franco's only hit in four at-bats. Rhys Hoskins ended the game 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk. Carlos Santana was 2-for-4 with a run, while Nick Williams went 1-for-3 plus a walk and an RBI. Tommy Hunter picked up the win as he gave up one hit in a scoreless inning of relief.

Bour homers in defeat

Marlins first baseman Justin Bour had a 2-run home run in four at-bats last night, giving his team a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning. Derek Dietrich was 2-for-4, while J.T. Realmuto went 1-for-4 and scored a run. Kyle Barraclough suffered the loss as he allowed four earned runs on two hits with two walks in two-thirds of an inning.

Trevor Richards (3-5, 4.06 ERA) gets the start today for Miami, while Philadelphia will go with Vince Velasquez (7-8, 4.02).

MLB Betting Trends

Miami

The over is 12-5 in the last 17 Marlins road games. The over is 7-3 in the last 10 Miami games following a loss.

Philadelphia

The over is 7-1 in the last eight Philadelphia games on a Friday. The Phillies are 4-9 in their last 13 Friday games.

Prediction:

One of my favorite bets is to go against a team after a walk-off victory. Richards has looked sharp as of late and the Marlins should know what to expect from Velasquez. This game has the makings of an upset.
