White Sox shut out at home
Chicago was swept in its home interleague series versus the Mets as it dropped the finale Thursday afternoon by a count of 4-0. Eloy Jimenez and Tim Anderson each went 1-for-3 to lead the modest offensive effort. Leury Garcia and Jose Abreu both finished 1-for-4. Dylan Cease took the loss as he gave up four runs (three earned) on seven hits over seven innings, striking out six and walking two. Ivan Nova draws the start tonight as he comes in with a 6-9 record, 5.23 ERA and 1.44 WHIP with 81 strikeouts over 125 2/3 innings pitched.
Phillies jump on Giants early
Philadelphia led 9-0 through four innings en route to a 10-2 victory Thursday afternoon at home over San Francisco. J.T. Realmuto led the Phillies offensively as he finished 3-for-5 with a home run, a double, three runs scored and three RBIs. Cesar Hernandez was 2-for-5 with a homer, a double and three RBIs. Roman Quinn went 1-for-1 off the bench with a solo home run and a walk. Scott Kingery ended the game 3-for-4 with a run and two RBIs. Jose Alvarez picked up the win in relief as he gave up one hit and walked one over one scoreless frame. Jason Vargas will make his first start as a member of Philadelphia tonight as he enters with a 6-5 record, 4.01 ERA and 1.27 WHIP with 81 strikeouts over 94 1/3 innings of work.
MLB Betting Trends
Chicago
The White Sox are 14-37 in their last 51 games overall. Chicago is 1-4 in the last five Nova starts.
Philadelphia
The Phillies are 4-0 in their last four games versus the AL Central. Philadelphia is 2-5 in its last seven Friday games.
Prediction:
The White Sox are struggling right now, but the last several games came against power right-handed starters. Chicago is set up to beat lefties and I like its shot against Vargas, who might press a little much in his first start with a new team. I like Nova's recent form and I'm going to take a shot on the White Sox snapping its four-game skid here.
