Rangers' Perez allows one run in six innings vs. A's
Martin Perez held the Athletics to one run across six innings but had to settle for a no-decision in a game his team eventually lost on Wednesday. It was far from a dominant effort but he found a way to keep the Athletics off the scoreboard for the most part. The only run he allowed came on a Matt Olson double in the first inning. Perez struck out four, walked three and surrendered seven base hits while burning 107 pitches in the quality start. This has been a rough season for Perez, who spent 10 weeks on the disabled list with an elbow injury. When he's been able to pitch he's been hit hard. He has a 2-4 record with a gruesome 7.08 ERA and frightful 2.02 WHIP in eight starts. Despite the good results today he is not a recommended fantasy play when he faces the Diamondbacks on the road on Monday.
Diamondbacks' Ray duels with Lester in no-decision vs. Cubs
Robbie Ray surrendered four hits and one run over seven innings Wednesday in a no-decision against the Cubs. He registered six strikeouts while issuing just one free pass. Ray lost his shutout bid in the fourth when he allowed an RBI base hit to Ben Zobrist. The 26-year-old held his own against Jon Lester in a battle of ace left-handers. Ray’s ERA isn’t where you’d expect it to be (4.90), though he’s pitched to a dominant 12.02 K/9 over 12 starts this year. He’ll be back out there Monday against Texas.
