D-Backs held to four hits
Arizona lost by a score of 5-1 at Miami Sunday afternoon to drop to 53-53 overall and 30-27 on the road. Nick Ahmed helped lead the Diamondbacks offense as he finished 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. Jarrod Dyson and Ketel Marte were both 1-for-3 plus a walk. Robbie Ray took the loss as he allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits with 11 strikeouts and no walks over six innings. Merrill Kelly starts tonight for Arizona as he enters with a 7-10 record, 4.22 ERA and 1.27 WHIP with 96 strikeouts over 119 1/3 innings pitched.
Rojas, Ramirez homer in win
Miami scored four runs between the fifth and seventh innings Sunday afternoon at home to improve to 40-63 overall and 20-33 at home. Miguel Rojas helped pace the Marlins offense as he ended the contest 2-for-4 with a solo home run plus two runs scored. Harold Ramirez went 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBIs. Brian Anderson finished 2-for-4 with a solo home run. Jose Quijada picked up the win in relief as he threw two scoreless innings with no hits allowed, three strikeouts and one walk. Caleb Smith gets the start tonight for Miami as he enters with a 6-4 record, 3.30 ERA and 1.02 WHIP with 110 strikeouts over 90 innings of work.
MLB Betting Trends
Arizona
The Diamondbacks are 2-6 in the last eight Kelly road starts. Arizona is 0-5 in its last five during game four of a series.
Miami
The Marlins are 4-0 in the last four Smith starts. Miami is 2-6 in its last eight Monday games.
Prediction:
Smith has had a very strong season, whereas Kelly has been inconsistent and hasn't led his squad to many road wins lately. It's difficult to bet on the Marlins, but they're playing decent baseball right now and I'm banking on Arizona coming in flat again with a road series continuing into Monday instead of the usual Sunday getaway game. Look for Smith to baffle the D-Backs and get enough run support to pave the way to a win.
