Diamondbacks' Buchholz holds Cubs in check in last start
Clay Buchholz limited the Cubs to one run over 6 2/3 innings Tuesday in the Diamondbacks’ 5-1 victory. Buchholz was making his first start in the majors in exactly a month after dealing with a strained oblique, but he showed no rustiness. The Cubbies managed only six hits and a couple walks against the veteran right-hander, and Buchholz punched out five batters. Buchholz has proved to be a terrific pickup off the scrap heap, as he now boasts a 2.38 ERA and 0.99 WHIP over eight starts. He is a good streaming option Sunday in San Diego.
Padres' Lucchesi earns win vs. Mets
Joey Lucchesi held the Mets to two runs over 5 1/3 innings Monday for his fifth win of the year. Lucchesi gave up six hits but issued zero walks and struck out six. The 25-year-old rookie left-hander now holds an impressive 3.34 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and 75/25 K/BB ratio through his first 72 2/3 major league innings. He'll get the Diamondbacks at home next.
MLB Betting Trends
Arizona
The Diamondbacks are 5-2 in their last seven games overall.
San Diego
The Padres have dropped 27 of their last 35 games overall.
Prediction:
These two teams combined for 13 runs on Saturday and should break out the bats again today, especially with Brian Knight behind the plate. In his last 17 games behind the dish, the over is 12-5. In his last 11 games behind the plate during a Padres game, the over is 9-1-1. In his last six games behind home plate when the Diamondbacks are playing, the over is a perfect 6-0. With an 'over' umpire behind the dish and a low total, I see plenty of value in the over today.
The Pick: Diamondbacks/Padres over 8
