Diamondbacks' Corbin pitches seven strong innings vs. Cubs

Patrick Corbin was excellent on Monday, allowing one run over seven innings and striking out nine in a 7-1 victory over the Cubs. Corbin was dialed in on Monday, as he has been for most of the 2018 season. The only run he allowed came on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Anthony Rizzo in the sixth with the Diamondbacks leading by six runs at the time. While he now has 158 strikeouts in 129 2/3 innings, this was the first time he’d struck out more than six hitters since June 22. Nevertheless, it’s been a phenomenal campaign for Corbin, who lowers his ERA on the year to 3.13. He’ll toe the rubber against the Padres on Saturday.

Padres' Ross only goes five but gets win vs. Phillies

Tyson Ross picked up a win by holding the Phillies to two runs over five innings in the Padres' 10-2 victory on Sunday. Ross wasn't overly sharp, permitting multiple baserunners in four of his five frames. He managed to keep the Phillies from putting up a crooked number, though, and lasted long enough to qualify for a victory in the Padres' blowout win. It's the right-hander's first win since June 3. He'll shoot for two in a row next weekend at home against the Diamondbacks.
