Hicks, Dixon homer in loss

Detroit lost by a count of 3-2 Friday night at Seattle as it fell to 30-69 overall and 17-33 on the road. John Hicks paced the Tigers offense as he went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, while Brandon Dixon ended the game 1-for-4 with a solo homer. Niko Goodrum was 2-for-with a double. Jose Cisnero suffered the loss in relief as he allowed one earned run on two hits with no strikeouts and one walk over two-thirds of an inning. Tyler Alexander gets the start today for Detroit as he enters with an 0-0 record, 2.25 ERA and 0.75 ERA with five strikeouts over 12 innings.

Smith notches walk-off single

Mallex Smith drove in the game-winning run with an RBI single Friday night as host Seattle topped Detroit by a score of 3-2 Friday night. Smith finished 2-for-4 with the RBI. Tom Murphy paced the offense as he went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and two RBIs. Daniel Vogelbach was 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Roenis Elias picked up the win in relief as he threw one perfect inning with a strikeout. Marco Gonzales draws the start today for the M's as he comes in with an 11-8 record, 4.37 ERA and 1.33 WHIP with 91 strikeouts over 127 2/3 innings.

MLB Betting Trends

Detroit

The Tigers are 30-69 in their last 99 road games. Detroit is 1-5 in its last six Saturday games.

Seattle

The Mariners are 5-1 in their last six games overall. Seattle is 3-13 in its last 16 Saturday games.

Prediction:

Alexander hasn't had much of a strikeout rate in his first two starts, but he did pitch very well his last time out and does a good job keeping hitters off balance. The Mariners have struggled against lefties and did do a lot of damage against Daniel Norris last night. I'm taking the Tigers to grab a rare victory this afternoon as Gonzales is prone to bad starts here and there.
