Cubs continue to slide

Chicago just can’t seem to find its stride this season and the Cubs have now lost four of their last five after a 3-2 loss to the Brewers last night. Chicago is 55-48 on the season, 19-30 on the road and 52-48 with the under. The Cubs have Jon Lester getting the start tonight. He is 9-6 on the season with a 3.87 ERA.

The Cubs held a 2-0 lead late in Friday’s game but saw its bullpen fall apart. Kyle Hendricks threw five scoreless innings of two-hit ball, but Steve Cishek gave up the first run and then Brandon Kintzler took the loss by allowing two runs on one hit. He falls to 2-1 on the year. Chicago had just four hits in the loss. David Bote drove in both runs on a two-run home run while Kris Bryant had a pair of hits.

Brewers take opener

Milwaukee has won seven of its last 10 games thanks to Friday’s big win over the Cubs. The Brewers are 55-50 on the season, 32-23 at home and 53-48 with the under. Milwaukee has Chase Anderson getting the start tonight. He is 5-2 on the season with a 3.90 ERA.

Gio Gonzalez threw 6.1 innings and gave up two runs on three hits, but it was the Milwaukee bullpen that locked things up. Adrian Houser got the win in relief to improve to 4-4 on the season while Josh Hader recorded his 23rd save of the season. Ben Gamel broke open the game with a two-run single in the eighth to lead the Brewers at the plate. Christian Yelich drove in the other run.

MLB Betting Trends

Chicago

The Cubs are just 7-19 in their last 26 road games, but 6-2 in their last eight NL Central games.

Milwaukee

The Brewers are 6-1 in their last seven against a winning team and 8-2 in their last 10 home games against a left-handed starter.

Prediction:

Lester hasn’t been a lockdown pitcher as of late, but has been competitive. He has given up at least three runs in seven of his last eight starts. He did throw 6.2 scoreless innings against the Brewers earlier this year. Anderson has given up two runs or less in six straight starts, but he doesn’t get deep into games. In one appearance against the Cubs, he threw three innings and allowed one run. Given the Cubs struggles as of late, I am going to roll with the Brewers at home.

MLB Prediction: Milwaukee Brewers -120
