Indians avoid sweep to Pirates
The Indians avoided being swept at home by the Pirates with a 4-0 win on Wednesday. They have still lost three of their last four, getting shutout twice. Cleveland is now 55-46 overall and 23-25 on the road. The Tribe are scoring 5.15 runs per game on offense while allowing 4.33 per contest.
Carlos Carrasco is getting the start for the Indians tonight. He is making his 19th start of the season and comes in with a 12-5 record, a 4.03 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP. Carrasco has pitched 109.1 innings this year and has 120 strikeouts with 24 walks.
Tigers can’t find consistency
The Tigers have alternated wins and losses over their last eight games and are coming off an 8-4 win at Kansas City on Wednesday. The Tigers are now 44-60 overall and 26-25 at home. Detroit is putting up 3.93 runs per game this year and allowing 4.61 per contest.
Mike Fiers gets the start for the Tigers tonight. He has started 19 games this year and has a 7-6 record with a 3.49 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP. Fiers has pitched a total of 111.0 innings and has 82 strikeouts with 24 walks.
MLB Betting Trends
Cleveland
The Indians have won six of their last seven on the road and they have won 22 of Carrasco’s last 29 starts against a losing team.
Detroit
The Tigers are just 1-4 in their last 5 Friday games, but they have won eight of Fiers’ last nine home starts.
Prediction:
Obviously Cleveland is the better team, but I think the Tigers can take this opener. Fiers has been pitching quite well as of late and become possible a possible trade option at the deadline. Cleveland has been struggling at the plate in recent games and Carrasco isn’t quite the dominant pitcher like some of the other Indians starters. I think Detroit finds a way to sneak out a win tonight.
The Pick: Detroit Tigers +165
