San Francisco Giants Fantasy Spin
Stephen Vogt went 3-for-4 and drove in a run during Wednesday's loss to the Cubs. Two of his hits were doubles but it was the single that plated the RBI in the third inning. That tally was the only scoring play of the game for the Giants. Vogt hasn't had a ton of playing time this year behind Buster Posey but he's put up a very nice .275/.345/.527 slash line in 55 games when given the chance. He has four home runs and 19 RBI in 131 at-bats.
San Diego Padres Fantasy Spin
Manny Machado went 3-for-4 in the Padres’ shutout loss to the Mets on Thursday. Machado accounted for exactly half of the Padres’ six hits on the afternoon. The San Diego offense manufactured only five baserunners over seven frames against Mets’ starter Jacob deGrom and advanced only two runners into scoring position all afternoon. The 27-year-old fantasy stud is hitting .274/.345/.511 with 59 runs scored, 25 home runs, 66 RBI and three stolen bases in 426 plate appearances. So much for all of the grave concern regarding his well-documented early-season struggles.
MLB Betting Trends
San Francisco
The Giants are 5-0 in their last five road games and 8-0 in their last eight divisional matchups.
San Diego
The Padres are 3-9 in their last 12 games overall and are just 4-9 in their last 13 games coming off a loss.
Prediction:
Given how well San Francisco has played over the past three weeks, coupled with the club’s success in San Diego, the Giants offer bettors the best value tonight. They’re a perfect 5-0 in their last five games versus the Padres and are 4-1 in their last five games at Petco Park. The Giants are also 4-0 in Jeff Samardzija’s last four road starts and are 5-2 in his last seven outings following a team loss in their previous game. On the other side, the Padres have dropped four of Joey Lucchesi’s last five starts and are 5-15 in his last 20 outings against fellow NL West opponents.
The Pick: San Francisco Giants +138
