Vazquez breaks tie with homer
Christian Vazquez hit a pinch-hit solo home run in the top of the seventh inning Tuesday night to break a tie in what ended as a 5-4 Boston victory at Tampa Bay. Vazquez finished the game 1-for-1 with the homer plus a walk. J.D Martinez ended the contest 3-for-4 with a run scored. Andrew Benintendi was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Rafael Devers went 2-for-5 and scored two runs. Chris Sale picked up the win as he gave up two earned runs on four hits with 10 strikeouts and three walks over six innings. Marcus Walden walked one in one-third of an inning to earn his second save of the season. David Price draws the start this afternoon as he enters with a 7-3 record, 3.61 ERA and 1.20 WHIP with 106 strikeouts over 92 1/3 innings pitched.
d'Arnaud goes deep in defeat
Tampa Bay fell by a count of 5-4 at home Tuesday night against Boston to drop to 57-47 overall and 27-26 at home. Travis d'Arnaud helped lead the Rays offense as he went 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Tommy Pham was 2-for-4 with a double, a walk and an RBI. Matt Duffy finished 2-for-3 with a double and a walk in his first game of the season. Colin Poche suffered the loss in relief as he allowed one earned run on two hits with one strikeout and no walks over 1 1/3 innings. MLB Betting Trends
Boston
The Red Sox are 6-0 in the last six Price starts on astroturf. Boston is 32-14 in the last 46 Price starts.
Tampa Bay
The Rays are 4-1 in the last five Morton home starts. Tampa Bay is 5-2 in the last seven game threes of a series.
Prediction:
Morton is the obvious choice for the Rays as they look to climb back into second place today. He is coming off a relatively poor start, but overall Morton has had a dynamite season. Price is also coming off a poor start and the fact that it came against Baltimore is somewhat alarming. With the quick turnaround and it being a getaway game, I like the hosts to get the job done here.
