Red Sox' Pomeranz set to return to starting rotation
Drew Pomeranz (biceps) will rejoin the Red Sox' rotation Tuesday in Baltimore. Pomeranz struck out five across six innings of one-run ball in his final rehab start Wednesday with Triple-A Pawtucket to clear the way for his return to the majors. The left-hander has been out since early June with left biceps tendinitis and holds a 6.81 ERA over eight starts this season. He can't be trusted in fantasy leagues until he strings together a couple good outings.
Orioles' Ramirez pitches well in spot outing vs. Rangers
Yefry Ramirez did not allow a run over five innings of work while taking a no-decision in Saturday's win over the Rangers. Ramirez was making a spot start in place of the injured Andrew Cashner (neck) on Saturday. He pitched well in the outing, striking out seven and walking three while giving up just two hits -- both singles -- over his five innings of work. Cashner should be able to return to the rotation at some point shortly after the All-Star break, but if he ends up facing an extended absence, the 24-year-old Ramirez could potentially see another turn or two through the rotation in the short term. On the whole, he's pitched to a 3.09 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 24/9 K/BB ratio in 23 1/3 innings with the big league club this season.
