Padres edged again

San Diego lost for a second consecutive day to the Cubs by a score of 6-5 on Saturday. San Diego is now 46-52 overall, 23-25 on the road and 47-43 with the over after the latest loss. The Padres have Cal Quantrill taking the mound today. He is 2-2 on the year with a 4.21 ERA.

The Padres had the lead early in the game but couldn’t hold onto it and just couldn’t find the equalizer later in the game. Manny Machado had his 25th home run of the season during the loss while Hunter Renfroe hit his 28th and Fernando Tatis Jr. had his 16th. Both Machado and Tatis drove in two runs. Joey Lucchesi took the loss as he gave up six runs over 4.1 innings on 10 hits. He is now 7-5 on the year.

Cubs stay hot

Chicago has won seven of its last eight thanks to taking the first two games in this series with the Padres. The Cubs are 54-44 on the season, 36-17 at home and 49-47 with the over. Kyle Hendricks gets the start for Chicago today. He is 7-7 on the season with a 3.46 ERA.

The Cubs fell behind 3-2 early in Saturday’s game, but took a 6-4 lead in the fourth and never trailed again. Javier Baez had a three-run home run to lead the Cubs in the win while Anthony Rizzo had two hits and two RBI. Jose Quintana got the win despite a lackluster start. He pitched five innings, allowing five runs on eight hits with seven strikeouts. Quintana is now 8-7 on the year. Craig Kimbrel got his sixth save with a perfect ninth inning.

MLB Betting Trends

San Diego

The Padres are just 16-35 in their last 51 Game 3’s of a series and 1-5 in their last six following a loss.

Chicago

The Cubs have won four straight overall and five of their last six after a win.

Prediction:

Hendricks hasn’t had a win in over a month, but his outings haven’t been the worst. He just hasn’t gotten deep into games. San Diego has been starting hot, but struggling with the Chicago bullpen. I could see the same thing happening today. All Hendricks has to do is get midway into the game and I think he can handle that. Quantrill has been very up-and-down and has a 4.66 ERA on the road. I just like the Cubs right now while they are hot. They have been waiting for a spark and seem to finally have it.

MLB Prediction: Chicago Cubs -190
