Jays dominate opener

Toronto tore apart Detroit in Friday’s series opener, picking up a 12-1 win. The Blue Jays are now 37-62 overall, 19-32 on the road and 48-48 with the over/under total. Trent Thornton is getting the start tonight. He is 3-7 on the season with a 5.25 ERA.

The Blue Jays rolled on Friday, establishing a 12-0 lead before the Tigers scored a single run late. Toronto finished the game with 15 hits. Teoscar Hernandez had the lone home run and finished the game with two RBI. Vlad Guerrero Jr. added three hits and scored three runs while Danny Jansen drove in three runs. Marcus Stroman threw seven scoreless innings to earn his sixth win of the year. He had five strikeouts.

Tigers humiliated

Detroit has lost five straight and 10 of its last 11 thanks to the 12-1 loss to the Blue Jays at home on Friday night. The Tigers are 29-64 overall, 12-33 at home and 44-43 with the under. Detroit has Daniel Norris getting the start tonight. He is 2-8 on the season with a 5.14 ERA.

The Tigers finished Friday’s game with eight hits, but could produce just one run. JaCoby Jones had three hits and scored the lone run for the Tigers while Gordon Beckham drove him in. On the mound, Jordan Zimmerman was shelled for six runs in 3.2 innings to fall to 0-7 on the year. The next three relievers all gave up runs as well.

MLB Betting Trends

Toronto

The Blue Jays are just 3-8 in their last 11 road games, but they are 5-1 in Thornton’s last six starts against a losing team.

Detroit

The Tigers are 14-42 in their last 56 home games and 11-44 in their last 55 overall.

Prediction:

Detroit is a mess and they send Norris to the mound today. He has given up 11 runs over his last 10.2 innings and hasn’t had a strong outing in some time. Thornton hasn’t been pitching well as of late either, but he has been regularly up against solid lineups like Boston, New York and Houston. The Tigers haven’t been able to consistently score and their bullpen is a mess. So, even if Norris pitches well, his bullpen isn’t likely to help him.

MLB Prediction: Toronto Blue Jays -120
