Rangers' rally falls short

Texas lost by a count of 4-3 Friday night at Houston to drop to 50-47 overall and 19-26 on the road. Asdrubal Cabrera paced the Rangers offense as he ended the contest 3-for-3 with a solo home run, a double, a stolen base and a walk. Danny Santana went 3-for-5 with a double and a stolen base. Rougned Odor finished 1-for-4 with a solo home run. Mike Minor suffered the loss as he allowed four earned runs on seven hits with 10 strikeouts and one walk over seven innings. Ariel Jurado will start today for Texas as he enters with a 5-5 record, 4.63 ERA and 1.43 WHIP with 51 strikeouts over 70 innings.

Verlander strikes out 12 in win

Houston held on for a 4-3 victory at home over Texas Friday night to move to 62-37 overall and 34-14 at home. The Astros led 4-0 through five innings before holding off the Rangers' rally attempt. Justin Verlander picked up the win as he gave up two earned runs on eight hits with 12 strikeouts and one walk over six innings. Roberto Osuna earned his 21st save as he threw a perfect ninth inning. Jose Altuve helped lead the Houston offense as he went 2-for-4 with a solo home run. Alex Bregman ended the game 1-for-3 with a solo homer. Yordan Alvarez and Yuli Gurriel both finished 1-for-4 with a solo home run. Jose Urquidy will start tonight for the Astros as he comes in with a 0-0 record, 10.50 ERA and 2.50 WHIP with eight strikeouts over six innings of work.

MLB Betting Trends

Texas

The Rangers are 1-5 in their last six road games. Texas is 1-4 in the last five Jurado starts.

Houston

The Astros are 5-2 in their last seven games. Houston is 7-2 in the last nine meetings.

Prediction:

Urquidy was very poor in his first two starts, but I'm a big believer in his talent and his strikeout rate is solid. Plus his first-ever start was at Coors Field, which certainly counts for something. I think he does well in getting the job done enough today as the Astros offense should do plenty enough in getting to Jurado and support their rookie starting pitcher.
