Marlins edged in opener

Miami led 1-0 through five innings Friday night at NL-best Los Angeles, but could not hold on in what ended as a 2-1 defeat. Jorge Alfaro led the Marlins offense as he finished 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Harold Ramirez went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. Garrett Cooper ended the contest 1-for-4 with a double. Zac Gallen suffered the loss as he surrendered two runs (one earned) on three hits with five strikeouts and four walks over 5 1/3 innings. Sandy Alcantara draws the start tonight for Miami as he enters with a 4-9 record, 3.94 ERA and 1.43 WHIP with 76 strikeouts over 107 1/3 innings.

Ryu throws seven strong innings in win

Los Angeles posted a 2-1 victory over visiting Miami Friday night to improve to 65-35 overall and 38-12 at home. Hyun-Jin Ryu continued his spectacular season by earning the win as he allowed one earned run on four hits with seven strikeouts and three walks over seven innings. Kenley Jansen notched the save as he struck out the side in the ninth inning. A.J. Pollock helped lead the Dodgers offense as he went 2-for-2 with a double and two walks. Alex Verdugo was 1-for-4 with a run scored. Cody Bellinger finished 1-for-3 plus a walk. Clayton Kershaw gets the start tonight for LA as he comes in with an 8-2 record, 3.00 ERA and 1.05 WHIP with 98 strikeouts over 105 innings pitched.

MLB Betting Trends

Miami

The Marlins are 4-1 in their last five Saturday games. Miami is 4-10 in its last 14 games overall.

Los Angeles

The Dodgers are 41-10 in the last 51 Kershaw home starts. Los Angeles is 0-4 in the last four Kershaw starts versus the Marlins.

Prediction:

For whatever reason, Kershaw hasn't been able to solve the Marlins over the last couple seasons but I'm not going to look much into that. He's coming off a very good start and should shut down a weak Miami offense. While Alcantara was an All-Star, that basically only happened because the Marlins had to send somebody. The Dodgers should get to him today, although the young righty does do a good job of keeping the ball in the yard. Regardless, I'm betting on the hosts to win by multiple runs here.
