Pittsburgh Pirates Fantasy Spin
Kevin Newman drove in two of the Pirates' three runs Tuesday in St. Louis. Offense was hard to come back in this one, as the Pirates and Cardinals combined for just 10 hits and four runs. Newman plated a run with a single in the fifth inning to get the scoring going and adding another RBI on a fielder's choice in the ninth. It's curious as to why Newman has been moved down from leadoff to the No. 7 spot this month, but with 12 hits over his last seven games he should get another shot at the top of the order soon
St. Louis Cardinals Fantasy Spin
Paul DeJong went 0-for-4 with a strikeout Tuesday versus the Pirates to drop his season batting line down to .251/.334/.428. He wasn't alone, as the Cardinals managed just five hits and their lone run was driven in by pitcher Jack Flaherty. Still, while he had an excellent April, DeJong has been pretty useless since with a .205 average and just 24 RBI over 62 games even though he hasn't batted lower than third over that span.
MLB Betting Trends
Pittsburgh
The Pirates are 1-4 in their last five games overall.
St. Louis
The Cardinals have dropped four out of their last five games versus National League Central opponents.
Prediction:
I don’t trust the Cardinals as far as I can throw them and the Pirates have nosedived since finishing the first half on a tear. Neither team can hit, which sets up bettors to cash the under, which is now 4-1 in the last five meetings between these two teams and 21-8 in the last 29 meetings at Busch Stadium. The under is also 5-0 in Daniel Ponce de Leon’s last five home starts and is 7-1 in his last eight outings overall. Furthermore, the under is 6-2 in the Pirates’ last eight road games.
The Pick: Pirates/Cardinals UNDER 9
