Tigers drop another

Detroit dropped another game on Monday, as the Tigers lost to the Tribe 8-6. Detroit is now 29-60 overall, 17-28 on the road and 43-40 with the under. The Tigers have Ryan Carpenter on the mound tonight. He is 1-5 on the year with an 8.36 ERA.

Monday’s game saw a weather delay and also saw the Tigers lose a lead late in the contest. Detroit finished the game with 11 hits. In a surprise outburst of power, the Tigers had four home runs in the loss. Jordy Mercer homered twice and finished the game with three hits and three runs while Jeimer Candelario and Christin Stewart both homered as well. Daniel Norris got the start and gave up five runs over 5.2 innings. Victor Alcantara took the loss by allowing three runs in 0.1 innings of work.

Indians take opener

Cleveland picked up an 8-6 win in the series opener on Monday night and the Tribe have won eight of their last 10 games. Cleveland is 52-40 on the season, 27-20 at home and 50-39 with the under. The Indians have Zach Plesac on the mound today. He is 3-3 on the year with a 4.00 ERA.

Cleveland surged late to get the win on Monday. Oscar Mercado had two home runs to spark the rally. He finished with three hits and two RBI while Jose Ramirez, Mike Freeman and Tyler Naquin each had two hits and two RBI. Adam Plutko got the start and allowed five runs over 5.1 innings. Nick Wittgren got the win in relief. He is 4-0 on the year. Brad Hand picked up his 25th save of the year despite allowing a run in the ninth.

MLB Betting Trends

Detroit

The Tigers are just 2-7 in Carpenter’s last nine starts and 1-4 in his last five starts in division play.

Cleveland

The Indians are 6-1 in their last seven games following a win and 9-2 in their last 11 after allowing five runs or more in their previous game.

Prediction:

The Tigers need a lot to go right for them to win these days, so it doesn’t look good to have Carpenter on the mound. He has not gotten past five innings in his last three starts, allowing 19 runs over his last 11.2 innings. That includes eight in three innings to the Tribe in Detroit. Plesac has been struggling as of late, giving up 10 runs over his last 6.1 innings. However, he threw seven strong against Detroit at home back on June 23 and I think he can do it again today. I like the Indians in a big win.

MLB Prediction: Cleveland Indians -1.5 (-135)
