Cincinnati Reds Fantasy Spin
Scooter Gennett (illness) went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI in his return to the Reds' lineup Sunday. Gennett hadn't appeared in a game since last Saturday, before the All-Star break, due to lingering groin discomfort and a minor illness. He has played in just seven total games this season, and Sunday's was his most productive yet. There should be more like it moving forward.
Chicago Cubs Fantasy Spin
Jason Heyward slugged a two-run homer to lead the Cubs to an 8-3 victory on Sunday, capping off a pivotal three-game series sweep against the division-rival Pirates. Heyward obliterated a go-ahead, two-run homer to right-center field -- his 15th round-tripper of the season -- off Pirates starter Trevor Williams in the fifth inning. It was his first long ball since June 30. The 29-year-old outfielder has enjoyed one of the more unexpected renaissance campaigns in recent memory, hitting .275/.359/.474 with 45 runs scored, 40 RBI and five steals in 345 plate appearances. After three consecutive years of relative futility at the dish, there’s no doubt that Heyward is back as a relevant mixed-league fantasy asset.
