Reds give up 19 at Cleveland
One day after an improbable ninth inning sent Cincinnati to a comeback victory at the Indians, the Reds fell behind 17-0 through four innings Wednesday en route to a 19-4 defeat. Tyler Mahle was shelled for seven runs (five earned) on six hits with one strikeout and two walks in 2 1/3 innings to take the loss. Scott Schebler was 1-for-4 with a walk at the top of the order. Joey Votto went 1-for-2 with a walk. Scooter Gennett finished 3-for-5 with a solo homer and two runs. Jesse Winker was 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and two RBIs. Billy Hamilton went 1-for-3 with a triple, a walk and a run.
Cardinals shut out in series finale
St. Louis put up 14 runs in the first game of the two-game set at the White Sox, but then fell 4-0 in the finale on Wednesday. Matt Carpenter was 1-for-2 with a double and a pair of walks to pace the offense. Jose Martinez, Yadier Molina and Paul DeJong all had a single. DeJong also drew a walk. Luke Weaver suffered the tough-luck loss as he surrendered one earned run on three hits with seven strikeouts and two walks over six innings.
Matt Harvey (4-5, 4.80 ERA) will start today for the Reds, while the Cards counter with Carlos Martinez (6-4, 3.05).
MLB Betting Trends
Cincinnati
The over is 16-5-2 in the last 23 Reds games. Cincinnati is 4-17 in the last 21 meetings.
St. Louis
The Cardinals are 7-3 in Martinez' last 10 home starts. St. Louis is 8-3 in Martinez' last 11 starts versus the Reds.
Prediction:
Harvey has had his moments with the Reds, but is still a candidate for serious regression. Martinez seems to have sorted himself out after a series of poor starts coming off the DL. I'm going to say the off day did St. Louis well and its offense hits Harvey hard on the way to a win by multiple runs.
