Jays struggle in first half

Toronto doesn’t look to have much playoff hopes as they struggled in the first half of the season and lost three of their last four coming into the break. Toronto is 34-57 on the season, 16-27 on the road and 45-43 with the over. The Jays have Aaron Sanchez on the mound today. He is 3-12 on the season with a 6.16 ERA.

The Blue Jays aren’t terribly strong on the mound or at the plate. Toronto has a 4.91 team ERA with a 1.45 team WHIP this year. On offense, Toronto is averaging 4.32 runs per game while hitting .232 as a squad. Freddy Galvis is leading the team with 18 doubles, 15 home runs and 44 RBI. Vlad Guerrero Jr. is coming off a big Home Run Derby showing. He has 13 doubles, 8 home runs and 25 RBI on the season.

Yankees with strong start

Despite losing their last two games of the first half of the season, the Yankees had a strong start to the year and sit at 57-31 on the season. The Yankees are 31-14 at home while going 48-37 with the over. New York has Domingo German getting the start tonight. He is 10-2 on the year with a 3.67 ERA.

New York is one of the top hitting teams in the league, averaging 5.72 runs per game while hitting .265 as a team. On the mound, the Yankees have a 4.14 team ERA with a 1.29 team WHIP. DJ LeMahieu is leading the team with 21 doubles, 12 home runs and 63 RBI while Gary Sanchez has 24 home runs and 57 RBI.

MLB Betting Trends

Toronto

The Blue Jays are 5-13 in their last 18 road games and 3-13 in their last 16 series openers.

New York

The Yankees have won eight of their last 10 Friday games and 47 of their last 65 division games.

Prediction:

The Jays have struggled and so has Sanchez. He has lost his last eight starts and he has an 11.81 ERA against the Yankees this season. German was one of the top pitchers in the league in the early months. While he hasn’t been as strong in the past month, he still pitches better than Sanchez. German has a 2.37 ERA at home and I think he will be just fine against this Toronto team today while Sanchez struggles to get outs against New York.

MLB Prediction: New York Yankees -1.5 (-150)
