Mariners' Paxton surrenders four runs in loss to Rockies
James Paxton surrendered four runs in seven innings and was charged with a loss against the Rockies on Saturday. It was smooth sailing early on as he allowed just one run through six frames, but then he served up a three-run home run to Noel Cuevas in the seventh to turn a sweet game sour. Paxton struck out nine batters against one walk and seven total hits. He falls to 8-3 on the season with a 3.49 ERA and 1.07 WHIP after 19 starts. He ranks fifth in the major leagues with 154 strikeouts in 118 2/3 innings.
Angels' Skaggs penciled to start vs. Mariners
Tyler Skaggs (groin) is "penciled in" as the starter for the Angels on Thursday against the Mariners. Skaggs is currently on the 10-day disabled list with a right adductor strain. The hope for the left-hander was that he would miss only one turn in the rotation after being placed on the DL on July 4, retroactive to July 1 -- and if he's able to make the start against Seattle on Thursday, that's all he would miss. His return would be a boost for the Angels, who very well could be without staff ace Garrett Richards for the rest of the year due to a damaged UCL in his right elbow.
MLB Betting Trends
Seattle
The Mariners are 6-2 in their last eight games versus the Angels.
LA Angels
The Angels have beaten the Mariners in five of Paxton's last seven starts.
Prediction:
The under is 4-1 in Skaggs' last five starts overall and 4-1 in his last five outings coming off 11 or more days of rest. On the other side, the under is 4-0 in Paxton's last four starts and has cashed in 10 of his last 13 outings versus a team with a winning record.
The Pick: Mariners/Angels under 7.5
