Three-run third propels LA
The Dodgers trailed 1-0 heading into the third inning Wednesday night, but scored three in that frame and never looked back en route to a 4-2 win. Matt Kemp helped lead the Los Angeles offense by going 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI. Max Muncy was 2-for-4 with a walk and a run. Logan Forsythe finished 1-for-2 with a walk and an RBI. Cody Bellinger went 2-for-4 with a double. Kenta Maeda earned the win as he gave up one earned run on four hits with nine strikeouts and one walk over 5 2/3 innings. Kenley Jansen threw a perfect ninth inning with a strikeout for his 25th save.
Villanueva homers in defeat
San Diego third baseman Christian Villanueva hit his 18th home run of the season, a solo shot, to pull the hosts to within 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh before LA tacked on anther run the next inning. Travis Jankowski ended the night 1-for-3 with a walk and a run. Austin Hedges finished 2-for-3 with a double. Joey Lucchesi took the loss as he allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits with four strikeout sand a walk over four innings.
Ross Stripling (7-2, 2.22 ERA) gets the nod for the Dodgers today, while the Padres will go with Tyson Ross (5-7, 4.41).
MLB Betting Trends
Los Angeles
The Dodgers are 16-6 in their last 22 road games. The over is 15-6-2 in the last 23 Los Angeles games on a Thursday.
San Diego
The Padres are 1-7 in their last eight starts by Ross against Los Angeles. San Diego is 2-6 in its last eight home games.
Prediction:
Ross was abysmal his last start and has really hit a rough stretch over the last couple of months. Stripling, on the other hand, continues to put strong starts together. With the uncertainty of how Ross will bounce back, I want to stay away from the total. I'd rather take a shot on the Dodgers run line as there is a good chance Ross gets hit hard again, but with Stripling likely to give another very good outing LA might only have to score anywhere from three to five runs for the run line to hit.
