Rockies score 19 in first five innings

Colorado scored early and often Wednesday night, opening up a 19-1 lead through five innings en route to a 19-2 victory. D.J. LeMahieu helped lead the way by going 3-for 5 with two doubles and four runs. Charlie Blackmon was 3-for-3 with a home run, a walk, three runs and three RBIs. Nolan Arenado finished 2-for-3 with a walk, a run and two RBIs before being subbed out. Carlos Gonzalez finished 2-for-5 with two home runs and six RBIs. Trevor Story was 2-for-4 with a double and a run. Ian Desmond was 3-for-5 with a home run and five RBIs. German Marquez helped his own cause by going 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs and two RBIs. Marquez notched the win by allowing two earned runs on five hits with eight strikeouts and two walks over six innings.

D-backs use two position players in relief

Arizona used infielder Daniel Descalso in relief for 2 2/3 innings last night and he gave up three earned runs. That was followed by catcher Alex Avila, who threw two scoreless innings to keep the Rockies from adding to their huge total. Shelby Miller suffered the loss as he allowed five earned runs on four hits with one strikeout and two walks in an inning of work. Paul Goldschmidt was 1-for-2 with a solo homer in the first inning before Colorado dominated the rest of the way. Jake Lamb finished 2-for-4 with a run.

Robbie Ray (3-1, 5.23 ERA) will start today for the D-backs, while Colorado turns to Kyle Freeland (8-6, 3.18).

MLB Betting Trends

Arizona

The Diamondbacks are 12-3 in their last 15 road games. Arizona is 16-5 in Ray's last 21 road starts.

Colorado

The Rockies are 9-3 in their last 12 games overall. Colorado is 5-16 in the last 21 meetings.

Prediction:

Freeland has been fantastic all season, especially when you take Coors Field into consideration. With how Ray has been giving up a big inning here and there while getting by with good run support, I'm a bit surprised Arizona is favored here. I like the small home underdogs in this spot as the Rockies should be able to build off last night, especially considering they were able to rest a couple key guys in the latter innings.
