Cardinals' Mikolas earns his ninth victory, beats Diamondbacks
Miles Mikolas allowed two earned runs, seven hits and four walks with three strikeouts over six innings in a victory at Arizona on Wednesday. Mikolas threw 63 of his 99 pitches for strikes in the quality start, his sixth outing in the past seven allowing three or fewer runs while lasting six or more innings. It wasn't all great, as the four walks represented a season high. He is unbeaten on the road, going 5-0 with a 3.62 ERA in nine road starts. He'll look to keep up the good road work on Tuesday against the White Sox.
White Sox' Covey pounded for six runs in loss to Reds
Dylan Covey surrendered six runs in 3 2/3 innings and was charged with a loss to the Reds on Wednesday. It was a tale of one really bad inning -- all six runs came home to roost in the fourth frame. The Reds bunched together five singles, a walk, a hit batsman and a squeeze bunt to ruin Covey's day. He had been perfect through three innings prior to the flood gates opening in the fourth. Covey falls to 3-4 with a 5.54 ERA through 10 starts on the season. He gave up nine runs (eight earned) to the Rangers in his last start and his ERA has climbed more than two full runs over his last two starts.
MLB Betting Trends
St. Louis
The Cardinals have won five of Mikolas' last six road starts.
Chicago
The White Sox are winless in Covey's last four starts.
Prediction:
Everything lines up for the Cardinals here, from the poor form of the White Sox, to the pitching matchup. That said, St. Louis is one of the most inconsistent teams in baseball and with the Cardinals being such heavy public favorites, I'm going to take my shot here with the dog. The Cardinals are 2-5 in their last seven games versus a right-handed starter and 19-42 in their last 61 games following an off day. Meanwhile, while Covey has struggled, the White Sox are actually 4-1 in his last five home starts.
The Pick: Chicago White Sox +150
