Tigers edged in opener
The Tigers suffered a 10-9 loss to the Rays in Tampa to open the series on Monday night. Detroit is 40-53 on the season and 15-30 on the road. Detroit is putting up 4.03 runs per game this season while allowing 4.65 per contest.
Matthew Boyd is making his 18th start of the season. He comes into tonight’s game with a 4-7 record, a 4.58 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP. Boyd has pitched a total of 92.1 innings this season and has 79 strikeouts with 35 walks.
Rays win third straight
The Rays earned their third straight victory on Monday with the 10-9 win. They have scored 19 runs over their last two games. Tampa is now 46-44 overall with a 24-17 record at home. Tampa is scoring 3.97 runs per game this season while allowing 3.82 per contest.
Matt Andriese is getting the start for the Rays today. He has mostly pitched in relief this year, but is making his fifth start. He has a 2-3 record with a 3.63 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP. He has pitched a total of 52.0 innings and has 47 strikeouts and 13 walks.
MLB Betting Trends
Detroit
The Tigers are just 5-16 in their last 21 overall and 9-23 in their last 32 Tuesday games. They are also 21-49 in their last 70 on the road.
Tampa
The Rays have won four straight against AL Central opponents and six straight Game 2’s of a series. They are also 7-1 in their last eight against a left-handed starter.
Prediction:
I don’t love the reliever as a starter, but Tampa is playing better baseball than Detroit on most nights. The Tigers don’t have a reliable batting order due to injuries and youth. Tampa is getting pretty good pitching right now. While they gave up nine runs on Monday, they had back-to-back shutouts prior to that. I think Tampa will find a way to win again today, beating up on Boyd or the Detroit bullpen.
The Pick: Tampa Bay Rays -165
