Cubs' Hendricks allows three runs in no-decision vs. Tigers
Kyle Hendricks allowed three earned runs over five innings Tuesday in a no-decision versus the Tigers. It was much better than his previous outing last Wednesday against the Dodgers, in which Hendricks was lit up for six earned runs on eight hits and two walks over 2 2/3 innings. Hendricks surrendered seven hits and one walk Tuesday while tallying only two strikeouts, though Chicago went on to win this one 5-3. The right-hander has an underwhelming 5-8 record, 4.27 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, and 72/30 K/BB ratio through 97 innings this season. Up next will be a road start against the Giants.
Giants' Suarez allows just one run but still loses to Rockies
Andrew Suarez allowed just one run in seven innings and took a tough-luck loss to the Rockies on Wednesday. He went into the toughest ballpark in the majors for pitchers, tossed a great game and still lost. He surrendered a solo home run to catcher Chris Iannetta in his final inning of work and that is all it took to lose the ballgame. He struck out six, walked none and yielded five base hits. The unheralded rookie left-hander has been very effective this year but doesn't have a good record to show for it. He falls to 3-5 with a 3.92 ERA in 14 starts. He has 72 strikeouts and only 15 walks in 78 innings.
