Phillies edged on Saturday

Philly took the series opener over the Mets on Friday, 7-2 thanks to a five-run ninth, but dropped Saturday’s game 6-5. The Phillies are 46-43 overall, 19-26 on the road and 44-42 with the under. Aaron Nola gets the start for the Phillies this afternoon. He is 7-2 on the season with a 3.89 ERA.

Jake Arrieta struggled on the mound Saturday, allowing six runs on 11 hits over 4.1 innings. The Philly bullpen did what it could to keep the team in the game by pitching 3.2 scoreless innings, but the Phillies couldn’t come through at the plate. Jay Bruce had a home run and drove in two runs to lead the Phillies while Maikel Franco had three hits and a RBI.

Mets respond

New York had lost 9 of its last 11 games entering Saturday, but grinded out the win over the Phillies. New York is now 40-49 overall, 23-18 at home and 46-33 with the over. The Mets have Zack Wheeler getting the start today. He is 6-5 on the year with a 4.42 ERA.

The Mets fell behind early on Saturday, but rallied in the fifth for three runs to take the lead for good. New York put up 12 hits in the victory, led by Jeff McNeil, who had four hits. Tomas Nido added two hits and three RBI. On the mound, Noah Syndergaard didn’t have his best stuff, but still got his sixth win of 2019. He threw five innings and allowed four runs on seven hits with three walks and three strikeouts. Edwin Diaz got his 19th save of the year with a scoreless ninth.

MLB Betting Trends

Philadelphia

The Phillies are 5-1 in Nola’s last six road starts and 9-3 in his last 12 starts overall.

New York

The Mets have won Wheeler’s last five home starts, but are just 3-14 in their last 17 games against a right-handed starter.

Prediction:

Wheeler is having a nice stretch right now, allowing just four runs over his last 19.1 innings. That includes a 1-run, 2-hit outing in six innings against the Phillies in late June. He has a 1.80 ERA against the Phillies over three starts this year. Nola has back-to-back scoreless starts, including a scoreless effort against the Mets. However, he gave up five runs in the other start. I like what Wheeler has been doing against Philly this year and he has the home-field advantage. I will take the Mets in another competitive game.

MLB Prediction: New York Mets -105
