Marlins drop fifth straight
Miami lost by a score of 1-0 Friday night at Atlanta to drop to 32-54 overall and 17-25 on the road. Neil Walker helped pace the Marlins as he went 2-for-3 with a walk. Jorge Alfaro ended the contest 2-for-4 with a double. Starlin Castro finished 1-for-4 with a double. Jose Quijada took the loss in relief as he surrendered one earned run on one hit plus a walk while not retiring a batter. Caleb Smith will start today for Miami as he enters with a 3-4 record, 3.41 ERA and 1.02 WHIP with 82 strikeouts over 66 innings.
McCann wins it in ninth
An RBI walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning by Brian McCann sent host Atlanta to a 1-0 victory Friday night over Miami. McCann ended the game 2-for-4 with the RBI. Freddie Freeman finished 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and a run scored. Austin Riley went 1-for-3 plus a walk. Luke Jackson picked up the win as he gave up one hit with two strikeouts and no walks over one scoreless frame of relief. MLB Betting Trends
Miami
The Marlins are 4-1 in their last five Saturday games. Miami is 1-4 in the last five Smith road starts.
Atlanta
The Braves are 14-3 in their last 17 home games. Atlanta is 4-1 in its last five Saturday games.
Prediction:
Smith is actually the better pitcher in this matchup, but will face the much tougher lineup on the road. It's difficult to trust Miami to provide Smith run support and I don't think he can make it through the Atlanta lineup unscathed. While the Braves had a poor offensive night yesterday and might not have a huge output today, I think they do enough to get it done against the lowly Marlins.
