Indians pitch way to a win

Cleveland has won three straight games coming into today thanks to a 4-0 win over the Royals on Wednesday. The Indians are 47-38 on the season, 22-20 on the road and 47-36 with the under. Zach Plesac gets the start for Cleveland today. He is 3-3 on the season with a 3.61 ERA.

Cleveland was able to breathe a big sigh of relief on Wednesday as Mike Clevinger finally looked like his old self again. After struggling from his return from injury, Clevinger pitched four scoreless innings on Wednesday and struck out nine while allowing just four hits to improve to 2-2 on the year. At the plate, Cleveland drove in three of the four runs on home runs, as Carlos Santana hit his 19^th of the year and Roberto Perez had a two-run shot.

Royals silenced again

Kansas City has suffered six losses in seven games following the 4-0 loss to the Indians last night. KC is now 29-58 on the season, 16-27 at home and 43-39 with the over. The Royals have Homer Bailey taking the mound today. He is 7-6 on the season with a 4.87 ERA.

The Royals were held to just five hits at the plat eon Wednesday. They were only able to produce one extra-base hit, a double from Whit Merrifield. He and Alex Gordon each had two of the team’s five hits. Danny Duffy didn’t pitch poorly, but he took the loss to fall to 3-5. Duffy threw 6.2 innings and allowed two runs on five walks with three strikeouts. Kevin McCarthy gave up two runs in one inning of relief to really give Cleveland a cushion.

Prediction:

I thought Wednesday might go well for KC, but Clevinger showed up and the Royals showed that they can be easily dominated. Like Clevinger, Plesac is coming off a really poor start against Baltimore, but he had five really promising starts prior to that. I would expect him to bounce back today against a poor KC lineup. Duffy has been pitching pretty well for the most part as well, but KC has struggled to give him run support a number of times this year. I could see another low-scoring game that Cleveland ends up grinding out.
