Marlins edged in opener

Miami opened the series on Tuesday with a 3-2 loss at Washington. The Marlins are 32-51 overall, 17-22 on the road and 41-38 with the under. Miami has Sandy Alcantara on the mound today. He is 4-7 on the season with a 3.86 ERA.

Runs were hard to come by for both teams on Tuesday, as three of the five were scored in the first and only two the rest of the way. Miami used five pitchers, all of which pitched three innings or less. Jose Quijada took the loss by allowing a walk-off run in the ninth. Miguel Rojas had three of the team’s seven hits in the game and drove in one of the two Miami runs. Garrett Cooper drove in the other.

Nats stay hot

Washington has won six of its last seven games thanks to the 3-2 win over the Marlins on Tuesday. The Nationals are now 43-41 on the season, 22-19 at home and 42-36 with the over. Washington has Stephen Strasburg getting the start this evening. He is 9-4 on the season with a 3.88 ERA.

Trea Turner had a walk-off double in the ninth to give the Nationals the win. He had two hits in the victory while Juan Soto had two hits and two RBI for Washington. Soto had a triple and a home run, his 15th of the year. Patrick Corbin threw seven innings and allowed just one run with seven strikeouts in a no-decision. Sean Doolittle got the win in relief by throwing a hitless ninth. He is 5-2 on the season.

MLB Betting Trends

Miami

The Marlins are 22-48 in their last 70 road games and 19-43 in their last 62 games following a loss.

Washington

The Nationals have won five straight Wednesday games and 13 of their last 16 games against NL East opponents.

Prediction:

Strasburg has been in a bit of a funk, allowing at least three runs in four of his last five starts. That included four runs over seven innings at Miami last week. However, Washington still won that game as the Nats put up six runs on Alcantara over six innings. Miami just doesn’t have reliable hitting and their bullpen isn’t anything special. I like Washington at home behind a strong bounce-back effort from Strasburg.

MLB Prediction: Washington Nationals -265
