Tiger stymied by Scherzer
Detroit lost by a count of 2-1 Sunday afternoon at home versus Washington as former Tiger Max Scherzer struck out 14 in a dominating performance. Brandon Dixon accounted for the lone run as he finished 1-for-3 with a solo homer plus a walk. Bobby Wilson ended the contest 1-for-2. Niko Goodrum went 1-for-4 with a double. Joe Jimenez took the loss in relief as he surrendered one earned run on one hit plus a walk without recording an out. Matthew Boyd gets the start tonight for Detroit as he enters with a 5-6 record, 3.72 ERA and 1.09 WHIP with 129 strikeouts over 101 2/3 innings.
Giolito earns 11th win
Chicago held on Sunday afternoon for a 4-3 home victory over Minnesota to improve to 39-42 overall and 22-18 at home. Yoan Moncada ended the contest 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs and two RBIs. Jose Abreu finished 3-for-4 with a run scored. James McCann and Jon Jay were both 1-for-4 with an RBI. Lucas Giolito improved to 11-2 on the season as he threw five shutout innings of one-hit ball with four strikeouts. Reynaldo Lopez starts tonight as he comes in with a 4-7 record, 6.12 ERA and 1.58 WHIP with 83 strikeouts over 92 2/3 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
Detroit
The Tigers are 28-58 in their last 86 road games. Detroit is 0-5 in the last five Boyd starts.
Chicago
The White Sox are 4-1 in their last five versus the AL Central. Chicago is 15-36 in its last 51 Tuesday games.
Prediction:
The Tigers haven't been able to support Boyd lately and he's been a little shakier than usual. Chicago typically matches up well with lefties and Lopez already has a gem of a start earlier this season against Detroit when he struck out 14. I'm taking the hosts as a small dog today.
