Bullpen blows it for Nats

Washington blew a 5-3 lead in the seventh inning Saturday at Detroit and ended up falling by a score of 7-5. Tanner Rainey took the loss in relief as he surrendered three earned runs on one hit with two walks without retiring a batter. Anthony Rendon helped lead the Nationals offense as he finished 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Adam Eaton went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Brian Dozier was 1-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI. Max Scherzer starts this afternoon for Washington as he enters with a 7-5 record, 2.52 ERA and 1.03 WHIP with 156 strikeouts over 114 1/3 innings.

Cabrera sparkplugs Tigers to win

Detroit rallied late Saturday for a 7-5 home victory over Washington to improve to 27-51 overall and 12-28 at home. Miguel Cabrera helped lead the Tigers as he finished 3-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBIs. Nicholas Castellanos ended the game 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and two runs. JaCoby Jones was 1-for-3 with a double, two walks, a run and an RBI. Victor Alcantara picked up the win in relief as he gave up two runs (one earned) on three hits over one inning of work. Jordan Zimmermann draws the start today for Detroit as he comes in with an 0-5 record, 5.95 ERA and 1.45 WHIP with 27 strikeouts over 39 1/3 innings.

MLB Betting Trends

The Nationals are 4-1in their last five road games. Washington is 4-1 in its last five Sunday games.

The Tigers are 18-38 in their last 56 interleague games. Detroit is 0-5 in its last five Sunday games.

Just look at the pitching matchup. I don't even think the Nationals bullpen can screw this one up. Probably go with the runline here, but in a battle of two pitchers going against their former team it's a pretty lopsided affair here.
