Acuna Jr., Swanson lead Braves
Atlanta posted a 5-4 victory at New York Saturday to improve to 50-34 overall and 26-17 on the road. Ronald Acuna Jr. helped pace the Braves offense as he finished 3-for-5 with a double and two runs scored. Dansby Swanson was 3-for-5 with two doubles, a run and an RBI. Austin Riley ended the contest 2-for-4 with a solo home run. Nick Markakis went 1-for-2 off the bench with a solo home run. Sean Newcomb picked up the win in relief as he gave up one hit with one strikeout and no walks in 1 1/3 scoreless innings. Luke Jackson recorded his 13th save as he allowed one hit with two strikeouts and one walk over one inning. Max Fried draws the start today for Atlanta as he enters with a 9-3 record, 3.96 ERA and 1.33 WHIP with 84 strikeouts over 88 2/3 innings.
Smith homers in loss
New York fell by a count of 5-4 at home Saturday against Atlanta for its seventh consecutive loss. Domonic Smith helped lead the Mets offensively as he finished 1-for-5 with a solo home run. Jeff McNeil was 2-for-4 with two doubles, a run and two RBIs. Amed Rosario ended the contest 2-for-4 with a double and two runs. Seth Lugo suffered the loss in relief as he surrendered two earned runs on four hits with three strikeouts and no walks over 1 2/3 innings pitched. Noah Syndergaard gets the start tonight as he comes in with a 5-4 record, 4.55 ERA and 1.21 WHIP with 93 strikeouts over 95 innings pitched.
MLB Betting Trends
Atlanta
The Braves are 4-1 in their last five road games. Atlanta is 5-0 in the last five Fried road starts.
New York
The Mets are 1-5 in their last six home games. New York is 0-7 in its last seven games versus the NL East.
Prediction:
Syndergaard has had an uneven season, filled with some dominant starts but also plenty of clunkers. He didn't pitch well his last start, but was in pretty good form before that. Tasked with ending the Mets' skid, I think we get good Syndergaard tonight. Atlanta now has a 6.5-game cushion in the NL East standings and with it being a getaway day, it might step off the gas pedal for this contest.
