Markakis, McCann lead way to win
Atlanta posted a 5-3 victory Wednesday night at Chicago to improve to 48-33 overall and 24-16 on the road. Nick Markakis helped lead the Braves offense as he finished 1-for-4 with a 3-run homer run. Brian McCann went 1-for-4 with a solo homer. Freddie Freeman ended the game 2-for-4 with a run scored. Dallas Keuchel picked up the win as he gave up three earned runs on eight hits over 5 2/3 innings, striking out two and walking three. A.J. Minter threw the final 1 1/3 innings of perfect baseball with two strikeouts to notch the save. Bryse Wilson draws the start today for Atlanta as he enters with an 0-0 record. 8.31 ERA and 2.08 WHIP with four strikeouts over 4 1/3 innings.
Cubs unable to rally back
Chicago was unable to rally from a five-run deficit at home Wednesday night as it fell 5-3 to Atlanta. Willson Contreras helped lead the Cubs offense as he ended the day 2-for-3 with a solo home run, a triple and two runs. Kris Bryant finished 3-for-5 with a solo homer. Addison Russell went 2-for-3 plus a walk. Yu Darvish took the loss as he allowed five earned runs on five hits with eight strikeouts and two walks over five innings. Tyler Chatwood draws the start today as he comes in with a 3-1 record, 3.69 ERA and 1.49 WHIP with 30 strikeouts over 39 innings.
Public Betting Trends
Atlanta
The Braves are 4-1 in their last five road games. Atlanta is 18-6 in its last 24 games overall.
Chicago
The Cubs are 51-21 in their last 72 Thursday games. Chicago is 6-0 in the last six Chatwood home starts.
Prediciton:
The Cubs are trying to stretch Chatwood back out as a starter as he's thrown 53 and 73 pitches his last two outings, respectively. I don't love his matchup today against Atlanta, but he is at home and should get run support with the pitching situation on the other side not great either. This game seems like a tossup and with two good teams going at it, I'll side with the hosts as Chicago has been strong at home all season and a split in this series seems likely.
