Nationals fall in 10 innings

Washington lost 4-3 in 10 innings at home versus Atlanta Sunday afternoon to drop to 37-40 overall and 21-19 at home. The Nationals gave up two runs in the top of the 10th before scoring one in the bottom half, but ultimately came up short. Tanner Rainey took the loss in relief as he allowed two earned runs on one hit with one strikeout and two walks over two-thirds of an inning. Juan Soto helped lead the Washington offense as he ended the contest 1-for-5 with a solo home run. Gerardo Parra finished 2-for-4 with an RBI. Trea Turner ended the game 2-for-5 with an RBI. Scherzer draws the start today for the Nats as he enters with a 6-5 record, 2.62 ERA and 1.06 WHIP with 146 strikeouts over 106 1/3 innings pitched.

Marlins win fourth straight

Miami earned a 6-4 home victory Sunday afternoon at Philadelphia to complete a three-game sweep and win a fourth consecutive game. Jordan Yamamoto picked up the win as he allowed two earned runs on two hits over five innings, striking out seven and walking four. Nick Anderson notched the save as he gave up one earned run on one hit with one strikeout and no walks over one inning. Garrett Cooper helped pace the offense as he went 3-for-5 with a solo home run. J.T. Riddle was 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, a walk and two RBIs. Brian Anderson finished 2-for-5 with a solo home run. Trevor Richards takes the mound today as he comes in with a 3-7 record, 3.56 ERA and 1.25 WHIP with 77 strikeouts over 84 innings of work.

MLB Betting Trends

Washington

The Nationals are 5-2 in their last seven games overall. Washington is 4-0 in the last four Scherzer starts.

Miami

The Marlins are 23-49 in their last 72 games versus the NL East. Miami is 2-8 in its last 10 home games.

Prediction:

Scherzer has been in dominant form lately, which is nothing new for him. I think he takes care of a lackluster Marlins lineup with relative ease. While Richards has been pretty good this season, he'll have to be extra special today and I don't see that happening. Take the favorites here.
