Rays on long road trip

Tampa is on a lengthy road trip that already saw seven games with the Yankees and Athletics thus far. They are just 2-5 thus far on the trip. The Rays are 45-33 on the year, 25-15 on the road and 41-31 with the under. Blake Snell gets the start for the Rays today. He is 4-6 on the season with a 4.40 ERA.

Pitching has been the strength for the Rays this season, as they have a 3.24 team ERA and a 1.15 team WHIP to go with 726 strikeouts. All three numbers rank in the top five in MLB. Hitting-wise, Tampa averages 4.60 runs per game while hitting .259 as a team. Brandon Lowe has been leading the team this season at the plate with 17 doubles, 15 home runs and 46 RBI. Austin Meadows is adding 13 doubles, 12 home runs and 41 RBI.

Twins treading water

Minnesota has been one of the top teams in the majors for most of the season, but they are just 3-5 in their last eight games. The Twins are 50-27 on the season, 24-13 at home and 39-33 with the over. Kyle Gibson is getting the start for Minnesota today. He is 7-4 on the year with a 4.18 ERA.

The Twins lead the league in all major hitting categories, as they are averaging 5.71 runs per game while hitting .271 as a team with 147 home runs. On the mound, Minnesota has a 3.97 team ERA with a 1.27 team WHIP. Eddie Rosario has been leading the team this season with 20 home runs and 57 RBI while Max Kepler is adding 19 doubles, 19 home runs and 51 RBI.

MLB Betting Trends

Tampa

The Rays are 2-5 in their last seven road games and 1-4 in their last five games following an off day.

Minnesota

The Twins are 22-6 in their last 28 following a loss and 6-1 in their last seven games against a left-handed starter.

Prediction:

Gibson has been up and down as of late, trading good starts with bad. He is coming off a bad start against Boston, so that trends to a good start today. He faces a Tampa team that isn’t known for hitting, so it makes sense that he would pitch well. Snell was pitching well for a while, but has given up four runs or more in three of his last four outings, including six to the Yankees last week while recording just one out. Snell doesn’t seem right and he is facing the league’s best lineup on the road. I think Minnesota will be just fine today.

MLB Prediction: Minnesota Twins +100
