Mets split with Cubs

The New York Mets are coming off a four-game split with the Cubs in Chicago to wrap up a 7-game road trip where New York went 3-4. The Mets are 37-41 on the season, 17-27 on the road and 41-29 with the over. Steven Matz is getting the start for New York tonight. He is 5-5 on the season with a 4.28 ERA.

The Mets are middle of the road when it comes to hitting and pitching. They are averaging 4.76 runs per game while hitting .252 as a team. On the mound, New York has a 4.64 team ERA with a 1.36 team WHIP. Pete Alonso is leading the team with 17 doubles, 27 home runs and 61 RBI. Wilson Ramos is adding eight home runs and 40 RBI.

Phillies on a skid

Philadelphia is in a funk, as the Phillies have dropped seven straight games following being swept at home by the Marlins. Philly is now 39-38 on the season, 23-17 at home and 40-35 with the under. The Phillies have Zach Elfin getting the start tonight. He is 6-7 on the season with a 2.83 ERA.

Like the Mets, the Phillies are in the middle of the road in both hitting and pitching. Offensively, Philadelphia averages 4.68 runs per game while hitting .240 as a team. On the mound, the Phillies have a 4.51 team ERA with a 1.39 team WHIP. Bryce Harper has been leading the team with 21 doubles, 13 home runs and 52 RBI while Rhys Hoskins adds 16 doubles, 16 home runs and 50 RBI.

MLB Betting Trends

New York

The Mets have lost in six straight series openers and they are 1-5 in Matz’ last six road starts.

Philadelphia

The Phillies have lost seven straight NL East games and four straight series openers.

Prediction:

Matz has been steady at getting 5-6 innings of work in of varying damage. He has allowed at least three runs in four straight starts. Eflin has been much stronger and more consistent. He has allowed two earned runs or less in seven of his last nine starts. Matz has faced Philly twice and struggled in both outings, giving up nine runs over six innings of work. Eflin had one poor start against the Mets as well, but he has a 2.13 home ERA this season. I like him and the Phillies to end their losing streak today.

MLB Prediction: Philadelphia Phillies -125
