Rays' struggles continue

Tampa Bay fell by a 4-2 score Saturday at Oakland to drop to 44-33 overall and 24-15 on the road. Ji-Man Choi paced the Rays offense as he finished 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs. Joey Wendle ended the game 2-for-4, while Mike Zunino was 1-for-4 with a double and a run. Diego Castillo took the loss in relief as he allowed two earned runs on two hits with no strikeouts and two walks over one inning. Ryne Stanek will be the opener for Tampa Bay today as he enters with an 0-1 record, 2.53 ERA and 1.08 WHIP with 44 strikeouts over 42 2/3 innings.

Chapman guides A's to win

Oakland secured a 4-2 home victory Saturday evening over visiting Tampa Bay to improve to 41-37 overall and 24-18 at home. Matt Chapman provided the go-ahead RBI double in the bottom of the seventh inning. Chapman ended the game 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs. Ramon Laureano went 2-for-2 with an RBI. Robbie Grossman was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Yusmeiro Petit picked up the win in relief as he struck out all four batters he faced. Liam Hendriks earned the save as he struck out two batters in a perfect inning of work. Brett Anderson will start today for Oakland as he comes in with a 7-4 record, 3.68 ERA and 1.32 WHIP with 45 strikeouts over 85 2/3 innings.

MLB Betting Trends

Tampa Bay

The Rays are 1-5 in their last six road games. Tampa Bay is 5-1 in its last six game fours of a series.

Oakland

The Athletics are 5-1 in their last six home games. Oakland is 5-1 in the last six Anderson starts.

Prediction:

Stanek has been a solid opener for the Rays all season and I think Tampa Bay can jump on the hittable Anderson early here. Anderson's strikeout rate is extremely low and once Tampa Bay starts making hard contact, the game could tilt very early in its favor. The Rays are better than how they've played over the last week and I think they are a strong bet in this spot.
