Colorado Rockies Fantasy Spin
Ian Desmond recorded a season-high four hits in the Rockies’ extra-innings loss to the Dodgers on Saturday. Desmond jump-started the Rockies offense with a one-out double and a run scored off Dodgers ace Hyun-Jin Ryu in the opening frame. He followed that up by plating a run with an RBI single in the third inning. He also notched a leadoff single in the fifth, before being picked off, and later capped off the four-hit performance with a two-out single in the seventh. He was lifted for a pinch-runner at that point, which eventually came back to haunt the Rockies after their bullpen frittered away a late lead, sending the contest into extra innings. The 33-year-old veteran got off to a brutal start at the plate this season, but he’s hitting .338 (46-for-136) with seven homers and 27 RBI in 43 games since May 1. He may not be exciting, but he still has plenty of mixed league value left in the tank.
Los Angeles Dodgers Fantasy Spin
Alex Verdugo went 4-for-6 with a pair of solo homers, including a walk-off blast in the bottom of the 11th inning, to propel the Dodgers to a 5-4 win over the Rockies in extra-innings on Saturday. Verdugo clobbered a towering solo homer off Rockies starter Peter Lambert in the fifth inning and capped off a monster four-hit performance with a walk-off shot against reliever Jesus Tinoco in the 11th inning. It was the first multi-homer performance of his young career. He also doubled and singled to record a season-high four hits in this one. The 23-year-old outfielder is now up to seven round-trippers to go along with a stellar .303/.354/.493 triple-slash line across 246 plate appearances this season. It may not materialize right away, but Verdugo possesses the combination of elite plate skills, power and speed necessary to evolve into a five-category fantasy superstar someday. He needs to be owned in standard mixed leagues.
