Mets bounce back

The Mets dropped the opener to the Cubs on Thursday, 7-4, but bounced back on Friday afternoon with a 5-4 victory. New York is 36-40 on the season, 16-26 on the road and 40-28 with the over. Zack Wheeler is getting the start for the Mets today. He is 5-5 on the season with a 4.94 ERA.

The Mets grinded out the win on Friday, scoring single runs in the sixth and seventh to tie the game and then take the lead. Michael Conforto evened the game in the sixth with a solo home run while Jeff McNeil gave the Mets the lead with a RBI single. He also homered earlier in the game, a two-run shot. Jason Vargas pitched 4.2 innings and allowed four runs in the win but didn’t get a decision. Brooks Pounders got the win in relief by pitching 1.1 scoreless innings while Edwin Diaz got the 16th save of the year with a perfect ninth.

Cubs can’t find consistency

Chicago had a brief two-game win streak come to an end on Friday in the loss to the Mets. The Cubs are 41-34 on the season, 26-13 at home and 39-34 with the over. Chicago has Jose Quintana on the mound today. He is 4-6 on the season with a 3.87 ERA.

Chicago didn’t get much hitting and starting pitcher Yu Darvich gave up four runs over six innings. Brad Brach followed him up and gave up one run over two-thirds of an inning to take the loss. At the plate, Darvish actually had two hits and drove in a run while Addison Russell had a two-run home run.

MLB Betting Trends

New York

The Mets are just 6-21 in their last 27 road games and 1-5 in Wheeler’s last six road starts.

Chicago

The Cubs have lost Quintana’s last five starts, but they are 21-9 in his last 30 home starts.

Prediction:

The Cubs have lost Quintana’s last five starts, but some of them haven’t been terrible. He just hasn’t had great run support and his bullpen hasn’t helped him either. Wheeler has been able to rack up strikeouts this year, but he is giving up more runs than Quintana. He has given up at least three runs in seven straight starts. The Mets managed a win on Friday, but I think Chicago has the better starting pitching and the better hitting today.

MLB Prediction: Chicago Cubs -155
